How my online
Chemistry lessons work
We talk on Google Meet and use a shared Miro board. Both of us can write on the same question while we discuss it.
My setup
I use multiple monitors, a drawing tablet, fast broadband and a proper microphone/camera setup. That makes it quick to move between an exam question, a mark scheme, a data sheet and another example without spending half the lesson arranging windows.
My camera is normally on. The aim is for the technology to disappear into the background once we start doing Chemistry.
During a lesson
I can put an exam question straight onto the Miro board. We can annotate it, set out a calculation or draw a mechanism together, and I can see your working as it develops and steer you back on track.
Lessons are normally an hour. If we are in the middle of something useful and my timetable allows it, I sometimes run a little over.
The AQA work we use
I choose questions for the parts of the AQA course you need to work on. Topic folders include AQA questions and suitable questions from other exam boards where they give useful practice without teaching the wrong specification.
We spend time on both the chemistry and the wording of your answers.
After the first lesson
I’ll check whether the setup worked well for you. If writing on the board was awkward, or you could not comfortably see the question and the call at the same time, we can change the arrangement.
Between lessons
You can send me a question when you get stuck, ideally with your working so I can see what you tried. I also share extra questions and resources when they are useful, including access to my online Chemistry practice platform.
